6 May: Doin' what I do.
Day 6, Monday: If you couldn't answer with your job, how would you answer the question, 'what do you do'?
I make people smile and laugh. Or at least I try to make people smile and laugh. Maybe I should say I try to improve people's happiness?
Seriously though, if I could have figured out a way to incorporate "improves morale of shipmates" on an eval without it sounding dirty, I would have.
Sometimes, I have bad days where I'm not chipper or chatty or perky and I have an attitude and I'm generally a Grumpy Greta... But most days, I try to have a pleasant attitude and be talkative with folks.
I realized within the last 10 years that I'd rather be that person who people miss when I'm gone instead of the person that people are relieved when I'm not there. I'm sure that sometimes, it's a little bit of both, depending on who you ask, but overall, I like to tell myself, I'm missed when I'm gone.
I also feel like smiling/laughter is an easy way to improve someone's day. Even if they aren't even having a "bad" day, everyone enjoys a touch of humor... be it a corny joke or a dirty innuendo (company dependent) or even a story about something ridiculous like "crazy hour" activities ("crazy hour" was about 8-9 hours into a 12 hour shift where we all started to go a little crazy from sitting in a dark room staring at computer screens for too long) from when I was in Bahrain.
