I won't lie, there was something freeing about not doing the challenge last time because I've been able to put down and pick up books that I wanted to read on a whim. I didn't feel pressured by my list to read something I didn't necessarily enjoy to check a box. #MeganProblems, I know. The only person forcing me is myself.
But this time, I'm going to be easier on myself. I'll focus on getting these in audio format so I will actually be able to listen to them, since I've not been so hot at actually picking up a book and reading it for a while now. My reality is, when I sit down with a book, I am ignoring something else I might like to do or, worse, have to do. When I am listening to an audiobook, I can still do other things, like the laundry, drive, water the flowers, scoop poop, cook dinner, puzzle (although there won't be much of that going on while school is in session), etc. Because of that, I aimed for books that I can probably get an audio version of without much difficulty.
5 points: Freebie – Read a book that is at least 200 pages
- TBD
10 points: Read a book that starts with the letter “N”
- Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman
- Neil Patrick Harris: Choose Your Own Autobiography by Neil Patrick Harris, David Javerbaum
- The Nest by Cynthia D'Aprix Sweeney
10 points: Read a book that has a (mostly) orange cover
- The Last Days of Night by Graham Moore
- We're All Damaged by Matthew Norman
- The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead
- Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren
- This Is How It Always Is by Laurie Frankel
15 points: Read a book with an unlikable character
- War Storm (Red Queen #4) by Victoria Aveyard
- I hate Mare Barrow.. so she's unlikable enough for me. But I guess the real unlikable character would be Maven. /shrug
20 points: Read a book from the list of 100 books that PBS calls “The Great American Read”
I didn't think I would have already read so many books on this list, but here we are. Guess it's finally time to read a classic that I "missed out" on...20 points: Read a book with something related to water in the title; i.e. ocean, sea, lake, river, waves, etc.
- The Steel Wave (World War II: 1939-1945 #2) by Jeff Shaara
- I'm planning on reading book one of this series for another category, so hopefully it will be interesting enough for me to keep on. If not, I gave myself two other options.
- The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman
- The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman
25 points: Read a book you’ve owned the longest but haven’t read yet
30 points: Read a book with an emotion word in the title; i.e. joy, sadness, grief, love, anger, etc.
- Dark Triumph (His Fair Assassin #2) by Robin LaFevers
- Glad I didn't actually start this one quite yet.
- Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren
- Promise Me, Dad: A Year of Hope, Hardship, and Purpose by Joe Biden
30 points: Read a book (must be at least 2 words in the title) where each word in the title of the book begins with the same letter (conjunctions count)
- The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch
- I feel like the conjunctions counting is a bother and I'd rather read this. But I have a back up plan in case. I'll take the hit for this one not counting, but it will still count in my mind.
- Angela's Ashes by Frank McCourt
35 points: Read a book featuring a character who shares your profession or similar.
- The Lords of Discipline by Pat Conroy
- A book about Cadets. I'm not actually a Cadet, but I am a student at the Citadel.. and since there aren't really books about "people who write instruction manuals", I'll go with my student "job".
Oooh I hope you like Dark Triumph! I think it is my favorite of the series :)
ReplyDeleteNever even heard of The Lords of Discipline- guess I'm not as up on my Conroy as I thought! Haha.
I haven't been doing the challenge and don't think I will this round either :-/
